The first case of coronavirus confirmed in U.S.

The first case of human-to-human coronavirus transmission confirmed in U.S., in a patient in Illinois, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Thursday.

The transmission befell amid a husband and wife, who were in close contact with one another. The wife, a woman in her 60s, traveled to Wuhan, China, and identified with the virus last week. The husband resident of Chicago also in his 60s and complains health problems, and not traveled to China. The transmission marks the sixth case of coronavirus in the U.S.

State health officials stressed that risk to the general public in Illinois remains low, and they do not believe the virus is spreading broadly in communities. A precautious measure ensures that health care workers at the hospital where the patient is being treated are secure.

Cases of human-to-human transmission have previously been reported outside of China, in Germany, Japan, Vietnam and Taiwan.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention does not recommend wearing a face mask to prevent coronavirus.
