Fair Fares NYC helps eligible New Yorkers with lower incomes manage their transportation costs by providing them with a discount Metro Card.
Using the Fair Fares NYC Metro Card, eligible New York City residents ride certain NYC public transportation systems for half the regular price. Pay-Per-Ride fares, 7-day unlimited passes, and 30-day unlimited passes are all available in Fair Fares NYC.
The Department of Social Services (DSS) has been enrolling certain eligible New Yorkers in Fair Fares NYC since January 4th, 2019. On January 27th, 2020, DSS began accepting applications from New York City residents who want to apply for Fair Fares NYC.
New York City residents who applied and are eligible to receive a Fair Fares NYC Metro Card will receive their card in the mail 2 to 3 weeks after their application is approved.
