Karachi-born US Senator Chris Van Hollen hints running for US president

NEWYORK: Karachi-born US Senator Christopher Van Hollen Jr. has hinted at running for US President in the upcoming elections.

He was speaking at a meet and greet held in his honor by American Pakistani Public Affairs Committee APPEC in New York.

A meet and greet was organized in honor of Democrat Senator Christopher Van Hollen at the residence of APPAC Chairman Dr. Ijaz Ahmed in New York.

Dr. Ijaz Ahmed presented a bouquet to Senator Chris Van Hollen and introduced the guest to the participants.

He informed Hollen about the outstanding work of Pakistani Americans in various fields, as well as presented the concerns of the Muslim community on global conflicts, especially the tension between Gaza and Israel. Dr. Ijaz Ahmed also invited the US Senator to visit Pakistan.

The host committee of the meet and greet included APPAC President Dr. Pervez Iqbal, Board Members Asad Chaudhry, Asif Chaudhry, Naheed Bhatti, Mirza Khawar Baig and Dr. Mohammad Hadi.

Senator Christopher Van Hollen was born in Karachi in 1959, when his father was the US Consul General.

Addressing a participants, the Senator praised the involvement of Pakistani Americans in American politics. He criticized President Trump’s immigration policies and assured the community that any anti-Islamic law is unacceptable.

Prominent figures from the Pakistani American community were also present. APPAC board members welcomed their guest on his arrival.

APPAC President Dr. Pervaiz Iqbal said that it has been observed in the past several years that elections have been won by using race and religion in election campaigns, which is regrettable.

Board member Asad Chaudhry called the US senator a best friend for raising his voice for the rights of immigrants and Muslims.

Dr. Tariq Khan and Mirza Khawar Baig called the vote of Muslims and youth in American politics essential for the success of any position.

APPAC members, Arsal Ijaz of the Youth Wing and others asked the US senator questions on politics and other topics.
