MOS organizes annual crescent lighting ceremony at NYPD

NEWYORK: The Muslim Officers Society of the New York Police Department organized second annual crescent lighting ceremony at Police Headquarters One Police Plaza on start of Muslims holy month of Ramadan and distributed Iftar to police officers.

The event was duly inaugurated by Muslim Chaplain Imam Tahir with a recitation of Holy Qurah and prayer.

New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, ther senior officers and members of the MOS attended the event.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch extended her Ramadan greetings, saying that the Muslim officers deployed in the department are serving this city with discipline and integrity.

First Pakistani-American inspector in the NYPD, Adeel Rana, and other officers were also present.

President of the MOS, Deputy Inspector Waheed Akhtar expressed his gratitude to Commissioner Jessica Tisch. He said that Muslim officers do not allow any reduction in their professional services even during the fasting period.

Later, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch lit the electric crescent and stars to mark the beginning of Ramadan.

Other speakers participating in the ceremony appreciated the professional services and community services of Muslim officers without discrimination.

Later, Magrhib Adhan was called at the police headquarters, after which the participants broke their fast together.
