NEWYORK: The Desi Society of the New York City Department of Corrections organized a Royal Desi Gala titled “Night of Maharaja and Maharani” in New York.
The Royal Desi Gala was initiated with the playing of the American national anthem, while the police force contingent saluted and marched.
The Desi Gala was attended by a large number of prominent personalities, officers, and families of the South Asian community. A bhajan was also sung on the occasion.
The hall was decorated in traditional Desi style. In the reception session, the MC welcomed the guests on their arrival and appreciated the efforts of the Correction Department.
A colorful cultural program, music and traditional costumes made the event as memorable.
Addressing the participants, Desi Society Trustee Dr. Maryam Singh said that we are proud that capable people from the Sikh community have been appointed to high positions in the new city government.
Citations were also presented by various American officials to the Desi Society of the Correction Department at the Desi Gala in recognition of their services.
Addressing the participants, Manish Chopra of the Desi Society highlighted the message of cultural harmony and mutual respect. He said that we want those who play a positive role in the community to be encouraged.
Various artists performed dance performances, bhangras and music accompanied by drums to make the evening remarkable. The audience gave a lot of praise to the artists’ performances.
Representatives of the State Assembly from different constituencies of New York also attended the Desi Gala. The speakers said that such events not only highlight cultural heritage but also promote brotherhood and unity among people from different backgrounds.
During the event, personalities who have rendered outstanding services in various fields were honored with special awards while valuable prizes were also given out through raffle, which created more excitement among the participants.
The Desi Society thanked the volunteers and sponsors for the success of the event and expressed its determination that such events will continue to be organized in the future for cultural promotion.
