South Asian community announces its full support for NY-11 candidate Umar Usman

NEWYORK: The South Asian community in New York has announced its full support for Umar Usman, a young Pakistani-American candidate for the Congress seat NY-District 11.

This was announced at a meet and greet and fundraising dinner held in honor of Umar Usman, a young Pakistani-American candidate contesting for New York’s Congress District 11. The event began with the recitation of the Holy Quran at a private restaurant in Brooklyn.

The national anthems of the United States and Pakistan were also played on the occasion.

A large number of people from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and other South Asian countries attended the ceremony.

Addressing the participants, Congressional candidate Umar Usman said that unless we include and strengthen ourselves in the political system, our problems will not be solved easily.

A signature campaign was also launched in support of Umar Usman at the event.

Addressing the audience, the speakers said that Umar Usman not only worked for the community without discrimination but also guided the youth involved in welfare activities in obtaining government funds. They said that what we donate today will not be wasted.

Former Muslim Women’s Liaison at the New York City Mayor’s Office Atiya Shahnaz said that it is an immense pleasure that our young generation is coming into politics. She urged participants to fulfill your professional responsibilities honestly which is the guarantee of success.

Imams of the Mosques and Islamic Center also participated in the event. The speakers said that Omar Usman has created his own unique identity in a short period of time, hopefully he will succeed in his goal.

The participants of the Meet and Greet fundraising appreciated Umar Usman’s volunteer activities and community services and assured him of all possible support.
