NYPD’s Muslim Officers Society organizes its 17 th annual scholarship awards

NEWYORK: The New York Police Department’s Muslim Officers Society organized its 17th annual scholarship awards. Police officers were awarded prizes and several people were given airlines tickets for performing Umrah through a balloting.

Police officers saluted at the opening of the 17th annual scholarship awards dinner held in Queens, organized by the Muslim Officers Society of the New York Police Department.

The ceremony was moderated by Muslim Chaplain Imam Tahir. The event began with the recitation of the Holy Quran.

The annual event was attended by a large number of Muslim officers and their families in the New York Police Department.

Addressing the participants, President of the Muslim Officers Society Captain Waheed Akhtar welcomed all the guests and highlighted the aims and objectives of the establishment of the organization. He said that the MOS is working to motivate the new generation for joining the police as career and to better guide its members.

Assemblywoman Jennifer Rajkumar also attended the awards dinner and presented a citation to the Muslim Officers Society.

The ceremony was attended by a large number of heads and members of various organizations of the Pakistani American community, as well as social and business figures of the community.

Addressing the participant, Inspector Adeel Rana, the first Pakistani-American officer in the NYPD, paid tribute to Pakistani-American martyred police officer Adid Fayyaz and Bangladeshi-American Deedar Islam, saying that they should always perform their professional duties with integrity.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams and NYPD Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch attended the ceremony as special guests.

Addressing the participants, Mayor Eric Adams said that since he entered politics, he has never given up on the rights of Muslims or Pakistanis in the community.

A magnificent Arabic cultural dance was also performed to entertain the participants of the ceremony, which was highly appreciated by the audience.

At the annual awards dinner, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch met with the father and children of the martyred police officer Deedar Islam.

Speaking at the ceremony, Jessica said that she was the first Jewish female commissioner in the history of this police department and she is very happy to participate in the Muslim Officers Society ceremony.

The members of the Muslim community participating in the ceremony seemed very happy. The first Muslim Chief of the NYPD, Amir Yakatally, said that after the 9/11 tragedy, difficulties certainly arose for Muslims, but they moved forward with determination and courage, recognized their importance and achieved a unique position.

Later, awards were given to police officers including the Police Commissioner, Muslim Police Chief, Inspector Adeel Rana, and members of the MOS.

Various prizes were distributed among the participants through a draw at the annual scholarship award dinner, while several lucky people were also given airlines tickets for performing Umrah.
