NEWYORK: American Council of Minority Women in New York, in collaboration with Islamic Relief of the USA, organized the distribution of sacrificial meat to deserving families after Eid al-Adha.
The event began with recitation of holy Quran by the organization’s General Secretary Ahmed Latif. The people from different areas of the New York made que to receive the sacrificial meat.
American Council of Minority Women chairperson Baza Roohi said that they started distributing sacrificial meat fifteen years ago, and this year they have distributed 2,500 pounds of meat.
ACMW and Islamic Relief USA volunteers participated in the distribution of sacrificial meat.
Assemblyman Robert Carroll and New York City Deputy Public Advocate Kashif Hussain also participated in the event.
Assemblyman Robert Carroll said that he is a witness to the fact that ACMW has always helped the needy without discrimination of color or race at every opportunity.
During the distribution of sacrificial meat, it was also ensured that self-respect of any person is not hurt.
Deputy Public Advocate Kashif Hussain described Baza Roohi as a role model, and said that different communities and classes of the city are facing food shortages, and in such situations, distributing meat is the best measure.
The American Council of Minority Women, in collaboration with its partner Islamic Relief USA, has been distributing about 4,000 pounds of sacrificial meat every year after Eid al-Adha. This year, 2,500 pounds of meat were distributed as sacrificial meat was also distributed in Palestine on a large scale.
