NEWYORK: Nassau County office of Asian American Affairs and the American Punjabi Society organized a remarkable and colorful Vaisakhi festival at the Nassau County’s executive building.
The Punjabi community showed great enthusiasm on this occasion and the community members participated in large numbers.
The event was moderated by executive director of the Nassau County Office of Asian American Affairs Aun Naqvi. The event began with a salute by the Nassau County Police explorer color guard, after which the audience sang the American national anthem.
Nassau County’s executive Bruce Blakeman and American Punjabi Society founder Harry Singh Bhola were the chief guests of the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Harry Singh Bhola and Society President Gary Sukha described Vaisakhi as a global festival and said that this festival not only celebrates the arrival of spring but also symbolizes love, unity and cultural harmony.
The event was attended by several prominent public representatives including Nassau County government officials, North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jennifer DeSena, Nassau County Comptroller Elaine Phillip, and Nassau County Legislator Tom McCord, who expressed their joy at participating in the festival.
Speaking on the occasion, Aun Naqvi said that Vaisakhi is a beautiful festival celebrated all over the world, which is a symbol of peace, love and cultural harmony.
He said that county decided to highlight the beauty of the festival in Nassau County as well to promote harmony between different communities. He also expressed special thanks to Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, whose full support made this wonderful event possible.
A large number of community members participated in the festival, making the event a full-fledged public celebration.
At the end of the event, citations were also presented to the organizers and the special guests of the event.
The festival was not only a beautiful manifestation of the representation of Punjabi culture but also proved to be a great example of multicultural harmony and community unity.
