NYPD’s Muslim officers society organizes iftar dinner

NEWYORK: The Muslim Officers Society of the New York Police Department organized an Iftar dinner in honor of its members at the police headquarters. An awards were also given to prominent personalities at the ceremony.

The Muslim Officers Society of the NYPD continued its wonderful tradition this year as well. The 17th annual Iftar dinner held in honor of its members at the police headquarters One Police Plaza. The event began with the recitation of the Holy Quran.

A large number of Muslim officers of the New York Police Department, including their families, and the Muslim community participated in the ceremony.

The national anthem of the United States was also sung on the occasion. Muslim Chaplain Imam Tahir said that it is a blessing to be blessed with the month of Ramadan.

Addressing ceremony, MOS President Captain Wahid Akhtar explained the aims and objectives of the establishment of the Muslim Officers Society and also presented a summary of the performance to the audience.

He said that today’s iftar dinner is a practical proof of a beautiful demonstration of interfaith religious harmony.

The iftar dinner was also attended by Pakistan’s consul general in New York Amir Ahmed Atuzai, Turkey’s Consul General Muhittin Ahmet Yazal, and NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams. On this occasion, Amir Ahmed Atuzai said that the increasing number of Pakistani officers in the New York Police is a matter of pride.

The ceremony was also attended by heads and members of organizations representing the Pakistani American community in large numbers. Religious scholars and clerics said that the real purpose of fasting is to cultivate patience, tolerance and piety.

High-ranking NYPD officers also spoke at the iftar dinner held at One Police Plaza. They said that the officers, officers and staff of the department are like a family.

When it was time for Maghrib prayer, the New York Police Headquarters echoed with the sound of the call to prayer-Azaan and everyone broke their fast.

Later, the Muslim Officers Society presented awards to its members, officers and prominent figures of the community in recognition of their performance.
