NEWYORK: The Metropolitan Transit Authority MTA, which protects New York’s transit and rail systems, has reached a historic milestone as one of its officer Karandeep Singh has become the first Sikh officer to join the department, serving the MTA with his Sikh identity.
The Metropolitan Transit Authority of New York City, which was established 27 years ago in 1998, has about 70,000 employees who perform their duties and responsibilities in this department. In its 27-year history of MTA, Karandeep Singh, a member of the Sikh community, has earned the honor of becoming the first Sikh officer.
Karandeep Singh has not abandoned his religious and cultural style even after joining the MTA. Even today, he has maintained his commitment to public safety by wearing a traditional turban and beard.
The appointment of Sikh officer in MTA shows that there is ample scope within law enforcement agencies not only to adopt religious tolerance but also to express it practically.
This success of Karandeep Singh sends a message to the younger generation that a person with unwavering devotion to faith and service can easily achieve his goal by overcoming all obstacles to fulfill his dreams without any compromise.
