NEWYORK: The American Council of Minority Women, in partnership with Islamic Relief US, distributed Ramadan ration boxes to approximately 1,400 low income families. New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams also submitted a citation to ACMW.
American Council of Minority Women, in collaboration with Islamic Relief of USA, organized the 12th annual ration box distribution ceremony to help the needy families during Ramadan.
The ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Quran by ACMW General Secretary Ahmed Latif while ACMW event coordinator Umme Kulsom recited Naat in honor of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
Ramadan food boxes were distributed not only to Muslims but also to non-Muslim families without discrimination.
Chairperson of the American Council of Minority Women Baza Roohi said that due to rising inflation, there were many families for whom it has become difficult to buy even daily necessities and it is a small effort of ACMW to help the low income families.
American officials, including Assemblyman Robert Carroll, Councilmember Rita Joseph, Farah Louis, New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, Deputy Public Advocate Kashif Hussain and others, also participated in the event.
Assemblyman Robert Carroll said that Muslims and especially the Pakistani American community always remember those in need. American officials, along with the ACMW team and volunteers, distributed Ramadan boxes.
Councilwomen Rita Joseph and Farah Louis said that this is a wonderful tradition and same spirit is needed every year to help those in need.
New York City Public Advocate Jumani Williams presented citations to the American Council of Minority Women and Islamic Relief USA in recognition of their services.
The American Council of Minority Women said that they believe in serving humanity regardless of race or color. On this occasion, American officials congratulated the Muslim community on the month of Ramadan and expressed their best wishes.
