SHC orders removal of encroachments from Al-Asif square to toll plaza
KARACHI: Sindh High Court has directed deputy commissioner East, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation to remove encroachments from footpaths, and green belts in Sohrab Goth and restore entire public property including service roads, green belts, and footpaths to its original position as per the master plan in Sohrab goth area to toll plaza M-9 within one month.
The court direction has come on a petition against illegal parking and encroachments on public space, the greenbelt at Sohrab goth and other areas of district east.
SHC’s division bench headed by Justice Nadeem Akhtar observed its order that DC East and anti-encroachment cell and other civic agencies had been directed to remove encroachments from public land, footpath and greenbelt and restoration to their original position but order of the court was not complied with.
The court was informed by the DC East that whenever subject areas were cleared encroachments recurs immediately because inaction on part of the relevant authorities who were required to develop and beautify the said area.
The DC East has now undertaken before the court that encroachments within vicinity from Al-Asif square shall be removed within a week whereas remaining area of public property from Al-Asif square to toll plaza M-9 shall be cleared within one month.
The court directed DG Rangers and SSP East to provide proper protection and support to team of DC East for implementation of the court orders. The additional advocate general on behalf of Rangers and SSP East assured that proper protection and support to be provided to the deputy commissioner East for compliance of the court orders.
The counsel of private companies, national highway authority and WHO undertook that subject land will be developed for beautification as per scheme after removal of encroachments.
