After performing in Canada, the “Sultan of Melody,” Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, has arrived in New York with his son, Shah Zaman Ali Khan, for a series of live shows in the US.
They received a warm welcome upon arriving for a press conference held at a private hotel in Long Island, organized by World Star Entertainment.
Speaking to journalists, Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan said that the art of Qawwali has evolved with such innovation and diverse dimensions that its popularity is growing globally. He said that music sung from the heart remains timeless and never grows old.
Responding to a question, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan said that music lovers still wish to hear the Qawwalis of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan; while many artists perform them, doing justice to the material remains a challenging task even for them.
Regarding his son Shah Zaman’s singing, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan expressed that he, too, is an admirer of his son’s talent.
He emphasized that the more hard work Shah Zaman puts in, the more refined his voice will become. He said that they have prepared thoroughly and promise to deliver surprises during the three scheduled shows in the US.
Responding to a question, Shah Zaman Ali Khan said while his admirers affectionately say his singing style reflects that of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, he cannot sing exactly like him; his own identity will remain that of Shah Zaman Ali Khan.
Later, speaking to the media, Shah Zaman Ali Khan described his feelings as a mix of emotions, noting his good fortune in performing alongside his father.
Meanwhile, Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan said that regardless of where their concert takes place, the audience’s preference regarding what they wish to hear remains the priority.
World Star Entertainment’s Atiq Sheikh said that mere mention of Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s name speaks for itself, adding that Shah Zaman has such a significant following that he plans to organize a separate show for him in the future.
Later, at the request of journalists, Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Shah Zaman Ali Khan joined voices to weave their musical magic.
