NEWYORK: The New York Police Department has promoted another Pakistani-American Deputy Inspector, Jahangir Ashraf, to the rank of Inspector. Jahangir Ashraf will be inducted into the rank of Inspector at a ceremony to be held on Friday.
Pakistani-American Mohammad Jahangir Ashraf, who was posted as a Deputy Inspector in the New York City Police Department, is now being promoted to the rank of Inspector.
Jahangir Ashraf immigrated to the United States from Pakistan 26 years ago in 2000. Initially, he worked in the construction sector, later worked at a store and then as a cab driver, during which he also continued his education.
According to Jahangir Ashraf, he read an advertisement in 2006 with regard to job in the New York City Police Department and decided to try his luck at that time. He received an 18-month scholarship that changed his fate.
After joining the New York City Police, Jahangir Ashraf worked in various departments as a detective, sergeant and captain. In 2024, he was promoted to the position of deputy inspector and is now going to be promoted to the position of inspector.
There are currently more than 500 Pakistani-American officers in the New York Police Department, ranging from police officers to detectives, sergeants, lieutenants, captains and deputy inspectors. However, Pakistani-American Adeel Rana has the honor of being the first Pakistani-origin inspector in the NYPD.
The police department has decided to promote Deputy Inspector Jahangir Ashraf to the position of inspector. In this regard, a special ceremony will be held officially on Friday, July 31, in which Jahangir Ashraf will be given the special badge of the position of inspector.
