Police officer Hamid Armani becomes first Afghan-born deputy inspector in NYPD

NEWYORK: Another Muslim police officer has been promoted to a higher position in the New York Police Department as Hamid Armani became the first Afghani-born deputy inspector in NYPD.

The New York Police Department has promoted 200 officers, including 63 civilians, to the next level.

The ceremony, held at Police Headquarters One Police Plaza, began with the American national anthem and salute of police officers contingent.

New York City Mayor Zoharan Mamdani, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch and other senior officers attended the ceremony.

Addressing the participants, Mayor Zoharan Mamdani said that this city and its police department are of exceptional importance.

He said that police personnel and the officers here have put their lives at risk to ensure the safety of citizens.

The NYPD has promoted officers with ranks including inspector, deputy inspector, captain, lieutenant, sergeant, detective, and others to the next level.

Among those promoted is Captain Hamid Armani, who has become the first Afghan-born deputy inspector.

Hamid Armani immigrated to the United States 26 years ago in 2000 and joined the New York Police Department in 2006.

It is pertinent to mention that an unidentified person threw a bomb into Hamid Armani’s vehicle, while he was on duty in 2016, however, he drove away the vehicle from a public place, risking his life.

The ceremony was attended by the promoted police officers, their families, and representatives of various communities.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch congratulated the officers on their promotions and paid tribute to their efforts in making the city safer.

Later, the police Chaplain extended Easter greetings and prayed for the establishment of peace and order.
