NEWYORK: Pakistan has called for stronger and non-discriminatory global cooperation to prevent proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

The call was made by Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Usman Jadoon while speaking during Security Council briefing on the 1540 Committee.

The Ambassador emphasized the need of promoting non-proliferation, terming it more important than ever in a complex global environment of conflicts, tensions and security challenges.

He also stressed that non-proliferation efforts must not hinder international cooperation in the peaceful uses of dual use technologies, which are vital for economic development, particularly for the Global South.

He reaffirmed that all countries have an inalienable right to use nuclear energy and related technologies for peaceful purposes, consistent with non-proliferation and international legal obligations.
