NEWYORK: Pakistani-American community and Minhaj Welfare Foundation organized a fundraising event to establish the largest orphanage in Pakistan in which participants announced to give more than USD3,00,000 as donations.
This initiative was taken for the first time by overseas Pakistanis with the aim of ensuring the best care, education and training of orphaned children. The event was moderated by the Director Operations of the Minhaj Welfare Foundation, Syed Najam and Maryam Zafar.
The event began with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Imam Tariq Alvi followed by Naat in honor of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) by Mazhar Alvi.
A documentary was also shown, which mentioned the services provided under Minhaj Welfare Foundation, including the establishment of 600 educational institutions, 2,50,000 scholarships for students, 5,000 clean water projects, food campaigns for millions of people, sponsorship of thousands of orphans, and assistance to Palestinians in Gaza.
The program’s co-host Maryam thanked the sponsors. Later, President Minhaj Welfare Foundation Maqsood Qadri explained the aims and objectives of the establishment of the Orphan Care Complex.
The students who were studying in the hostels and educational institutions of the organization also spoke about their experience.
Director Operations of Minhaj Welfare Foundation Syed Najam gave a presentation regarding the atrocities committed against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar and the services provided by the organization.
Speakers expressed their views on the sponsorship of orphans in the light of the Quran and Hadith.
Imam Mohammad Sadiq Tahir, a teacher of Minhaj-ul-Quran, appreciated the organization’s president and all the team members for this noble initiative.
Board of Trustees of Muslim Majlis of Staten Island, Masjid Noor Dr. Sohail Muzaffar also reiterated his full support for the establishment of the Orphan Care Complex.
Later, a documentary was also presented on the need for this orphanage in Pakistan.
Addressing the participants, guest speaker Dr. Inam-ul-Haq said that this project of sponsoring orphans is very close to his heart, while Dr. Fakhra appealed to the participants to donate as much as possible to help the orphans.
Qari Imam Ghulam Rasool, a motivational speaker from the Muslim Majlis of Staten Island, said that today we have gathered for a historic work and we should actively participate in it.
Global Director of Operations of Minhaj Welfare Foundation Adnan Sohail gave a detailed briefing on the project and appealed to the participants to donate as much as possible.
Dr. Inam-ul-Haq announced a donation of $20,000 for the construction of the orphanage, $25,000 from the Muslim Majlis Long Island Masjid Noor, and $10,000 from Tariq Sahib.
Other speakers at the event also emphasized the need for maximum fundraising. Prayers were offered at the end. A Qawwali night was also organized at the end of the program, which greatly entertained the participants.
