NEWYORK: The Council of People’s Organization in New York has announced to provide free legal assistance to the immigrant community in the current situation.

COPO Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Rizvi, along with renowned Pakistani-born attorney Khurram Shahzad and other legal experts, said in a press conference at his office on Coney Island Avenue that immigrants are very worried in the current situation.

They said that COPO have formed a legal team consisting of expert lawyers and we want to solve the possible problems of not only Pakistani community but also all immigrant communities.

The legal team of the COPO includes Anood Cheema, Ibrahim Shabbir, Laurent Brothe, Helen Chambal, Humna Tahir, Omar Rashid, Rameen Siddique and others.

To a query of journalists,  Attorney Khurram Shahzad said that in immigration cases, huge fees are being charged from the petitioners but they are not even informed about the legal nature of the case. He announced that if any petitioner is not satisfied with his lawyer, he can also transfer his case to us.

In response to another question, Khurram Shahzad said that it often happens that immigrants do not provide complete details in their case.

He said that those persons seeking citizenship through a green card are advised to fully review their activities from the time of their arrival in the United States and then decide whether they should apply for citizenship now or not.

Earlier, Khurram Shahzad expressed the expectation that if the applicant is financially stable on an immigrant visa, there is a strong possibility that his family members will be granted citizenship.
