DG ISPR urges Afghan Taliban to halt support for terrorist groups
RAWALPINDI: Director General ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has reiterated Pakistan’s demand to the Afghan Taliban regime to stop facilitating terrorist groups.
Speaking with senior journalists, he said there are terrorist centers, including the leadership of Al-Qaeda, Daesh and other terrorist outfits in Afghanistan, receiving weapons and funding which is used against Pakistan.
He said Pakistan has provided evidence to the Afghan Taliban regime, which cannot be ignored.
The DG ISPR said the Afghan Taliban, in Doha negotiations, had promised the international community that they would not allow their territory to be used for terrorism, but this promise has yet not been fulfilled.
The DG ISPR demanded that the Afghan Taliban regime must enter into an agreement under a verifiable mechanism, emphasizing if a third party is required to establish this verifiable mechanism, Pakistan has no objection to it.
He said the Afghan regime has become a threat not only to Pakistan but to the entire region and the world. The Taliban regime is currently harboring non-state actors that pose a threat to various countries in the region.
He said the issue of trade disruption between Pakistan and Afghanistan is linked to our security and the protection of our people’s lives and property. Bloodshed and trade cannot coexist.
As regards the dignified repatriation of Afghan refugees, the DG ISPR said a total of 366,704 individuals were repatriated in 2024 and 971,604 individuals have been sent back in 2025.
In the current month alone, 239,574 Afghans have been repatriated.
As regards action against terrorists, the DG ISPR said a total of sixty seven thousand and twenty three intelligence based operations were carried out this year.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, twelve thousand, eight hundred and fifty seven and in Balochistan, 53,309 operations were conducted. He said 1,873 terrorists were killed this year, including 136 Afghan nationals.
