PPS holds its annual meeting and gala in Naperville

ILLINOIS: The Pakistani Physician Society of Illinois held its annual meeting and gala at a local hotel in Naperville.

The event was organized by the Pakistan Physician Society, the local branch of the Association of Pakistani Physicians of North America.

The event began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, after which the national anthems of Pakistan and the United States were played. More than 400 distinguished guests attended the annual meeting including

The ceremony was attended by more than 400 distinguished guests. The secretary and the treasurer of the PPS presented their reports at the meeting.

APPNA’s elected President Dr. Aftab Khan, Consul General of Pakistan in Chicago Zaman Mehdi, Chicago City Treasurer Melissa Conyears- Ervin, and Cook County’s observer Frederick Keagy attended the event as special guests.

Dr. Adeel Ahmed delivered the welcome remarks, while Dr. Shahid Ahsan presided over the ceremony and introduced the new executive body for 2025. Treasurer Dr. Tariq Hameed presented the annual financial report, which was appreciated by the participants.

The Pakistani Physician Society is a well-known and prestigious forum of Pakistani origin doctors in Illinois, which is a completely non-political and non-profit organization. Its aim is to play an active role in the fields of human service, education, health, culture and social welfare.

The Executive Council, Board of Trustees and volunteer leadership conduct the affairs of this organization.

Speaking at the ceremony, the President of the Pakistani Physician Society, Dr. Tehmina Bajwa, gave a detailed review of the organization’s achievements and services to the community throughout the year.

She mentioned various projects, medical camps, educational activities and welfare programs and said that the Pakistani Physician Society is a strong platform for Pakistani origin doctors who are working for health and welfare in both the United States and Pakistan.

During the ceremony, personalities who have rendered outstanding services in various fields were awarded the humanitarian award, lifetime achievement award and other awards. Journalist Syed Khalilullah from Chicago was also presented with an award in recognition of his services to community journalism and Pakistani immigrants.

Prominent personalities who attended the event included Dr. Amin Nadeem, Dr. Imtiaz Arain, Dr. Noreen Mirza, Dr. Iram Ahmed, Dr. Kishor Ali, Dr. Faiza Karimi, Dr. Samina Chaudhry Khan, Dr. Uzma Naeem Syed, Dr. Sarwat Ali Shah, Dr. Nuzhat Chalisa and Aamir Chalisa.

Dr. Shahid Ahsan, who will be the President of PPS in 2026, and Mrs. Sobia Katariwala, Dr. Tariq Hameed, Dr. Iram Ahmed, and Asad Bajwa played a significant role in the success of the event.

Consul General Zaman Mehdi praised the role of doctors of Pakistani origin and said that the Pakistani American community is making a significant contribution to the development of America in the fields of health, education and social welfare.

The event concluded with a wonderful musical program by renowned singer Ali Pervaiz Mehdi, which entertained the audience.

Later, President of the Pakistani Physicians Society, Dr. Tehmina Bajwa, thanked all the participants, organizers, and volunteers and expressed hope that the Pakistani Physicians Society would further expand its mission of serving the community in the future.
