Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrated in New York

NEWYORK: Pakistani Consulate in New York organized an Independence Day event to mark the 78th anniversary of Independence Day, in which rich tribute was paid to the armed forces of the country to their success in Operation Maarka-e-Haq Bunyan Al-Marsoos.

The event was attended by over two hundred distinguished guests including elected representatives, community leaders, businessmen, teachers, students, religious leaders, media representatives and members of the Pakistani American community.

The ceremony began with the flag hoisting ceremony, which was jointly performed by the Consul General of Pakistan in New York, Aamir Ahmed Atuzai, and Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmed.

Consul General paid tribute to the sacrifices made for the establishment of Pakistan and emphasized that Pakistan will not compromise on its sovereignty and the security of its people.

Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, while describing the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah as a beacon for Pakistan, said that the fundamental principles of the country’s establishment – peace, justice and honor – are as important today as they were in the past.

Chief guest of the event, Judge of the Lahore High Court, Justice Mohammad Tariq Nadeem, recalled the struggle for independence and emphasized unity, rule of law and the strength of national institutions.

Renowned artist Amjad Hussain presented the national anthem at the ceremony, while Ustad Abdullah Niazi and Waqas Niazi Qawwal recited the soulful poetry of Qawwali.

A special documentary film based on the struggle for Marka-e-Haq was also screened on the occasion, highlighting the courage, professionalism and role of the Pakistani armed forces in national defense.

The ceremony concluded with a pledge that Pakistan will continue to uphold its core values and move forward with unity to achieve national goals.
