Pakistani American community celebrates78 th independence day in New York

NEWYORK: Pakistan’s Consul General in New York, Amir Ahmed Atuzai, has said that freedom is the result of the sacrifices rendered by our ancestors.

He was addressing a flag-hoisting ceremony at the famous commercial center Bowling Green.

A special event was held at Bowling Green by the office of New York City Mayor Eric Adams to celebrate Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day. The program began with the recitation of the Holy Quran.

Addressing the ceremony, Consul General Amir Ahmed Atuzai said that today is a day to renew our pledge to our elders that we will never forget their struggle and sacrifice.

The event was attended by a large number of political, social and business figures from the Pakistani American community.

Addressing the participants, American Pakistani Public Affair Committee Youth Wing President Arsal Ijaz said that the new youth generation has the potential to move forward in every field of life.

The flags of the United States and Pakistan were hoisted at the bowling green with the playing of the national anthems.

Earlier, Commissioner of the Community Affairs Unit, Fred Kreizman said that the greatest beauty of this city is the equal importance and representation of all units.

Muslim Liaison Officer of the Mayor’s Office Atiya Shahnaz paid tribute to the role of women in every field since the establishment of Pakistan.

A large number of Pakistani-origin officers of the New York Police Department also participated in the flag-raising ceremony.

Asad Chaudhry of the Pakistan Day Parade Committee and social leader Mohammad Rizvi said that the Mayor of New York’s valuable services to the Muslims and the Pakistani community will always be remembered.

The children from the Pakistani community presented a wonderful tableau on national songs.
