COPO organizes workshop with TLC to facilitate Pakistani community

NEWYORK: The Council of People’s Organizations in New York organized a workshop with the Taxi and Limousine Commission to facilitate the Pakistani community. Drivers were briefed about the procedure for registering vehicles and obtaining licenses.

The workshop organized by the Council of People’s Organization in New York for drivers of the Pakistani community at its office on Coney Island Avenue began with the recitation of the Holy Quran.

The workshop was moderated by Mohammad Rizvi, head of COPO, who introduced all the guests and informed the participants about the importance and usefulness of the workshop.

TLC’s Deputy Commissioner for Legal Affairs, Sherryl Eluto, said that millions of people are employed by TLC and we also work to ensure the safety of passengers through driver training.

The workshop was attended by officers from the TLC and New York City’s Community Affairs Unit.

The participants were informed that 200,000 drivers are employed daily and one million people are provided with travel facilities.

The speakers informed the drivers about the TLC vehicle registration, permit and license procedures.

Senior Advisor and Muslim Liaison Officer at the Mayor’s Office of New York City Mehdi Hassan also expressed his views. He said that Mayor Eric Adams has always tried to solve the problems of citizens from all sectors.

Drivers participating in the workshop asked questions related to their various problems. TLC officers, their attorneys and the relevant police presented solutions through their answers.

Pakistani-American officers of the New York Police Department also participated in the workshop.

Earlier, drivers were informed that public safety is the first priority, action will be taken against any illegal action, and drivers’ complaints are also resolved without discrimination.
