Sijni community hosts iftar dinner at Al-Mehdi community center

NEWYORK: A grand Iftar dinner was organized by the Sijni community at the Al-Mahdi Islamic center in Long Island, New York.

The event was hosted by Feroz Mukhi on behalf of the Mukhi family, which was attended by a large number of community members and distinguished guests.

Religious scholar spoke in detail about the importance of the Holy Quran and the virtues of reciting it during the holy month of Ramadan.

President of the Al-Mahdi Islamic Center, Hasnain Aziz, thanked the participants for their presence and introduced the distinguished guests to the audience and appreciated their cooperation in the success of the iftar event.

The guest of honor was Nassau County’s Commission on Human Rights Commissioner Zahid Saeed.

Zahid Saeed said that the town represents the Asian, Muslim and Hispanic communities, and his job is to create harmony between the different communities and organize joint programs.

He said that with the help of the Al-Mahdi Center, various community services such as school and food drives were organized, while a grand iftar was also held last year.

Zahid Saeed appreciated the services of the Al-Mahdi Center and also presented them with a community partnership citation for the year 2025, which was warmly received by the participants.

Executive Director of the Office of the Asian American Affairs, Aun Naqvi, while mentioning the significant initiatives taken in Nassau County, said that for the past three years, one of the largest iftar events in America has been successfully held, in which the services of Al-Mahdi Center and Hasnain Aziz played a key role.

He said that for the first time in the 100-year history of Nassau County, Hussain’s Day was observed which was a symbol of the unity and spirit of brotherhood of the community.

He expressed his determination that the leadership of Nassau County will always be committed to serve all communities, including Muslims, and every possible support will be provided.

At the time of Iftar, everyone broke their fast together and offered Maghrib prayers in congregation. This spirited gathering promoted the feelings of unity, love and solidarity in the community.
