NEWYORK: Ramadan, the month of mercy, blessings and forgiveness, has begun in the United States. In New York, the Council of People’s Organizations (COPO) welcomed the month of Ramadan by decorating Coney Island Avenue, also known as Little Pakistan, with lights.
The ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Many American officials, including New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Assemblyman Robert Carroll, participated in the special ceremony of welcoming the month of Ramadan.
The Makki Masjid on Coney Island Avenue and the COPO office, along with other buildings and the walkways, were decorated with lights and the words “Ramadan Mubarak” presented a beautiful scene.
Addressing participants, Mayor Eric Adams and Assemblyman Robert Carroll said that coming to Coney Island Avenue always gives them a pleasant feeling.
The ceremony was also attended by political, social and business figures from the Pakistani American community.
Addressing participants, COPO head Mohammad Rizvi said that Mayor Eric Adams has supported not only the Pakistani but also the Muslim community in every difficult time.
American officials participating in the Ramadan reception ceremony also congratulated Muslims on the month of Ramadan and expressed their best wishes.
Earlier, Captain Waheed Akhtar, President of the Muslim Officers Society of the New York Police, addressed the audience and said that Ramadan is a month of patience, tolerance, and sacrifice. On this occasion, a cake was also cut to celebrate the Ramadan.
