Pakistani American observes Kashmir solidarity day in Houston

HOUSTON: Pakistan’s Deputy Consul General in Houston Ashar Shahzad has said that the Kashmiri freedom struggle around the world needs to be aligned with modern requirements.

He was addressing the Kashmir Solidarity Day ceremony, organized at the Pakistani Consulate in Houston to express solidarity with the Kashmiris suffering from Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir.

The ceremony was attended by Friends of Kashmir Chairperson Ghazala Habib, Vice Consul General Ashar Shahzad, and Sikh community leader Hardam Singh Azad, along with prominent social leaders Dr. Asif Qadir, Ashraf Bashir, and Tahir Bhatti.

Messages from the President of Pakistan and the Prime Minister of Pakistan were also read out at the ceremony.

Deputy Consul General Ashar Shahzad said that the purpose of observing Kashmir Day on February 5 is to remind the world of the promise made to the Kashmiris of their right to self-determination.

Chairperson of Friends of Kashmir Ghazala Habib said that India’s brutal and oppressive actions and the implementation of black laws have turned the occupied valley of Kashmir into a valley of fear.

Prominent leader of the Sikh community, Hardam Azad Singh, expressed his full support for the Kashmir freedom movement and expressed his determination to stand by the side of the Kashmiris.

Dr. Asif Qadir stressed the need for the Pakistani and Kashmiri diaspora to play an effective role in the Kashmir issue. Ashraf Bashir, Tahir Bhatti and others also spoke on the occasion and expressed their feelings regarding Kashmir.
