NEWYORK: Pakistan People Party US President Khalid Awan said that former prime minister and PPP leader Benazir Bhutto Shaheed was not only a politician but also a symbol of resistance and hope for the oppressed people.
Addressing 17th death anniversary of Pakistan’s first female Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, PPP US President said that Benazir Bhutto was truly Benazir and the courageous daughter of a brave father. Other PPP leaders also addressed on this occassion.
The speakers said that Benazir Bhutto endured her father’s arrest and execution, the murder of her brothers, her husband’s eleven-year imprisonment and her own long exile, but she did not give up on the political struggle and the fight for public rights.
The speakers said that had Benazir Bhutto been alive today, Pakistan would have been reaching new heights of development in every field.
The participants of the event said that Benazir Bhutto’s martyrdom is a loss not only for Pakistan but also for the Muslim world, which can never be compensated. Later, prayers were offered for Benazir Bhutto and all the martyrs of her family.
