Diwali celebrated in New York

NEWYORK: The ninth annual Diwali was celebrated in a grand manner by the Ceremonial Unit of the New York Police Department at Times Square in the New York.

The Diwali event at Times Square has become a symbol of the promotion of various cultural traditions in the New York City.

Before the start of the event, the New York Police Ceremonial Unit marched from 48th Street to 47th Street on Broadway in which police officers and local community members also participated.

Various tunes were performed to the beat of traditional drums at the event.

A highlight of the event was the Diwali countdown at Times Square, during which a “Happy Diwali” was displayed at the ball drop location.

The ceremony began with the ceremonial lighting of lamps, which was the backdrop to the Diwali festival, meant to symbolize the “Triumph of Goodness”. On this occasion, the lights on the famous tower of New York illuminated the entire area.

The participation of top government officials of New York in the ceremony added more importance to the Diwali event.

Senator Chuck Schumer, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, New York Police Commissioner, and Congresswoman Jennifer Rajkumar from Queens attended the event. They highlighted the importance of the Diwali festival and show solidarity with various communities.

The New York Police officers participating in the event also congratulated the Hindu community on the festival of Diwali.

This annual event of Diwali once again brought together people of different nationalities and religions on one platform, where they shared the message of love, peace, and brotherhood.
