Cab drivers have run out of patience against Uber and Lyft shutdowns during selected hours in New York. Uber and Lyft drivers once again stood up again against economic exploitation. Thousands of cab drivers took to the streets and protested in Manhattan at the call of the New York Taxi Workers Alliance.
The rally was led by the executive director of the New York Taxi Workers Alliance Bhairavi Desai while Assemblyman David Weprin was also present with him. The protesting drives were holding placards and banners inscribed with their demands and raised slogans against unjustified shutdown.
The New York Taxi Workers Alliance leaders said that Uber company has made it a routine to close the application when the number of users is low, which is a violation of TLC rules.
They said that drivers were losing thousands of dollars annually and they will observe complete strike on October 23.
The drivers said that right now they have decided to go on strike. They said that the companies have six weeks time and warned that if companies did not stop app closures at certain times and pay the minimum wage agreement agreed with the NYC Mayor Adams than they will adopt more strict line of action.
