MONTREAL: The incidents of car theft have been extraordinary increased in the city of Montreal, Canada.
A visiting family of Pakistani origin, traveling from America, also lost their vehicle in Montreal. According to the Montreal police, last year eleven thousand citizens were deprived of their vehicles.
The Canadian city of Montreal has become now a paradise for car thieves. Dozens of vehicle theft complaints were being reported on a daily basis, which has become a challenge for the police to prevent and the citizens have now started to feel unsafe.
A Pakistani- American family also deprived from their vehicle during their visit to Montreal. New York’s resident Athar Nawaz, a citizen of Pakistani origin, said that he went to Montreal on a trip with his family and parked the car on Westminster Avenue at night and when he came to drive the car in the morning, the car was stolen.
According to Montreal CTV News, 11,000 car theft complaints were filed with the police last year, as compared to 9,000 in 2022. The police says that young people between the ages of 15 and 25 are also involved in car theft. According to the Canada Border Service Agency, 600 stolen cars worth $34 million have been recovered in a joint operation with the police.
