Suffolk county hosts Iftar reception in honor of Muslim community

NEW YORK: Suffolk county district attorney Ray Tierney said that Muslims are the first community that not only accepted him but also supported him when he entered into the politics.

He was addressing an Iftar reception hosted in favor of Muslim community.

The second annual iftar held in the honor of Muslims in collaboration with Suffolk County District Attorney and Suffolk County Executive Office was started with the recitation of the Holy Quran.

Various organizations of Pakistani American community as well as large number of Muslims attended the Iftar reception.

Host of the event and Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney welcomed all guests upon their arrival.

He said that politics is not his field, but when he entered in this field he had no idea that it would not be easy to make a place in it. However, he said that the Muslims not only accepted him with an open heart, but also always supported him.

County Executive Edward P. Romaine also attended the Iftar reception and met the people of the community.

Addressing participants, he said that he witnessed a long time in politics and learned from life experience that there are ups and downs in life, but only such person is successful who is not afraid of difficult situation and sacrifices.

Renowned social activist of Pakistani American community Raja Hassan also addressed the guests. He said that Iftar reception in honor of Muslims was a good tradition which was connecting the people together.

Young members of the Suffolk county youth council who participated in the iftar dinner also expressed their views.

On this occasion, the young imam and the scholar highlighted the importance of fasting. He said that it is necessary to respect all religions and belief, promotion of tolerance and unity in order to build the society strong and stable.

Maghrib Azaan was called in the hall and everyone did the Iftar together. Representative of Governor also attended the event who presented citation to District Attorney Ray Tierney for organizing Iftar reception in honor of Muslim community.
