New York: Council of People’s Organization decorates Coney Island Avenue with lights on start of Ramadan

NEW YORK:  The Council of People’s Organizations in the Brooklyn, New York decorated Coney Island Avenue with lights on the start of Ramadan.

The Ramadan Lights ceremony was organized on Coney Island Avenue under the auspices of COPO. The ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Later, Naat Rasool Maqbool in honor of Prophet Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him was recited.

A large number of American officials also attended the ceremony. COPO’s head Mohammad Rizvi said that everyone was aware the importance of blessed month of Ramadan and we wanted that other communities could be introduced about the religion’s basic practices and traditions.

New York city public advocate Jumaane Williams, who participated in the ceremony, congratulated beginning of Ramadan and said that he was feeling very happy and pray for everyone in the world. He said that let it be easy for people facing hardships and going through difficult times. He said that there should be a ceasefire in Palestine immediately and such terrible situation should come to an end soon.

Religious scholar Allama Shakhawat Sandaralvi said that basically the God has created mankind for love and we have to offer prayer for the God. He said that month of prayers and worship has started so we have to teach love and harmony in this month.

The ceremony was attended by American officials and representative women of the Jewish community and others. They said that that it was very nice to visit the ceremony and it is important for brotherhood to promote religious harmony and tolerance. Later, Iftar was done with Azan Maghrib.

The participants of the lighting ceremony said that this is a much needed initiative and it is a unique way to enlighten the people of other religions with Islamic teachings. People also expressed happiness while appreciating the initiative of COPO.
