Imam shot dead by unknown persons in Newark, NJ

Newark: Unknown persons shot and killed Imam Hassan Sharif in front of the Muhammadi Mosque early in the morning in the city of Newark, New Jersey.

The police have announced a reward of $25,000 for helping the authorities in arresting the killers.

Newark Police say they received a report at 6:15 a.m. that someone had been killed near the Muhammad Mosque in Newark on South Orange Avenue and Camden Street.

According to the police, Imam Hassan Sharif was shot several times, but he was shifted to the hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries.

Matthew Plotkin, Attorney General of New Jersey, says that the murder is being investigated from every possible angle, but they cannot say anything definitively about the real motives of the murder.

According to the police, Imam Hassan Sharif has also been working as a security officer at Newark Airport since 2006.

Newark Mayor Ross Baraka said: “we all stand with the slain Imam Hassan Sharif and his family in this difficult time.”

Governor New Jersey, Phil Murphy tweeted a prayer for Imam Hassan Sharif, asking anyone with information about the murder to inform the police, while the police announced that anyone involved in the murder would be investigated and the perpetrators would be arrested. Those who assist police in arresting the culprits, will be rewarded with $25,000.
