Texas police given mandate to arrest illegal immigrants

0

Texas: The Texas police have been given the authority to arrest illegal immigrants as Governor Abbott signed into law a controversial bill that now gives state judges the power to deport illegal immigrants back to the country they entered.

According to the new law, offenders will be jailed for 6 months and fined up to 2,000 dollars, while repeat offenders will be sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The law will be implemented from early next year.

Meanwhile, US Democratic members of Congress and Mexican officials have said the law, known as Satellite Bill 4, would fuel racial discrimination against Hispanic and Latino citizens in the state.

While many human rights organizations have announced to go to the Supreme Court against this legislation, the governor is adamant that this is the only solution to stop illegal immigration.
