Veteran journalist, leader and former president of Karachi Press Club Abdul Hameed Chapra passed away on Tuesday. Karachi Press Club officials have expressed sorrow and griefs over his death, calling it a great loss to journalists
According to family sources, his funeral prayers will be offered on Wednesday night at Jamia Masjid Bilal Block No. 4 Journalists Society Abul Hassan Isfahani Road Gulshan-e-Iqbal and later he will be buried at Safora Goth Cemetery.
Abdul Hameed Chapra was President of Karachi Press Club for 5 times. He was also the President of Karachi Union of Journalists and Federal Union of Journalists. Abdul Hameed Chapra was also the author of three books. He was fluent in Urdu, English and Gujarati
He also contested the 1977 elections from the platform of Pakistan Qaumi Ittehad for the Sindh Assembly seat from Burns Road, an ancient area of Karachi. He was also associated with the Istiqlal movement
Abdul Hameed Chapra, along with other senior political leaders, endured the hardships of incarceration. He played a key role in press freedom while also being active in human rights
He was a professional senior commerce reporter and analyst and was associated with several newspapers. As long as he was in good health and used to come to Karachi Press Club daily and participate in discussions apart from meetings with journalists.
Karachi Press Club President Imtiaz Khan Faran, Secretary General Arman Sabir and other officials have expressed grief over the demise of Abdul Hameed Chapra and termed his demise as a great loss to journalist community across the country, including Karachi.
In his condolence statement, he said that today we have lost a great leader of journalism rights in Pakistan. Karachi Press Club officials have expressed their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for their forgiveness.
