Renowned cleric Mufti Zar Wali Khan passed away in Karachi on Monday. He was aged 67. Huge mass attended the funeral processions.
The cleric had been under treatment at the Indus hospital. His funeral prayers will be offered at Jamia Arabia Ahsan-ul-Uloom on Tuesday. He was also the head of the seminary.
Jamia Ahsanul Uloom’s founder and principal, Mufti Zarwali Khan, did not die of COVID-19 as reported in a section of media, JUI-F leader Qari Usman clarified on Tuesday.
In a statement, Qari Usman said that Mufti Zarwali was a chronic cardiac patient and was admitted to a hospital on Sunday for a regular check-up.
He passed away during the treatment, Qari Usman added.
Mufti Zar Wali Khan was born in Swabi in 1953. Having authored a number of books, he also taught fiqh, or Islamic jurisprudence, tafsir, hadith, and tasawwuf. He formed Jamia Arabia Ahsan-ul-Uloom in Karachi in 1978.
He was one of the disciples of Maulana Yousaf Binori and Abdullah Kakakhail.
