An upstate New York man accidentally shot his girlfriend at the end of a steak house date firing a stolen handgun when he reached in his pocket for his wallet, according to reports.
Anthony Ciccarelli, 19, allegedly unintentionally fired the Ruger 9mm when he went to pay the check at Texas de Brazil on Thursday night, hitting girlfriend Celeste Haynie in the upper right leg, Cheektowaga police told to media.
The couple initially drove away, but pulled over half-a-mile away to call for help, the station said.
Their date night ended with Ciccarelli’s arrest and his date having a tourniquet placed around her leg before she was taken to ECMC Hospital in Buffalo with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police later discovered that the gun reported stolen from a car in Niagara Falls in 2018.
Ciccarelli, 19, was arraigned in Cheektowaga Town Court Friday on charges of first-degree reckless endangerment as well as criminal possession of a firearm and criminal possession of stolen property.
All three charges are felonies and he faces seven years in prison if convicted, the reports say.
He was released after posting $5,000 bond and hearing scheduled for Wednesday.
