Houthis Claim Capturing Saudi Troops, Vehicles
Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi group broadcast footage on Sunday that it said showed a major attack near the border with Saudi Arabia’s southern region of Najran.
The group claims they have killed 500 Saudi soldiers, captured a further 2,000 and seized a convoy of Saudi military vehicles.
Colonel Yahiya Sarea said All those captured would be paraded on the Houthi-run Al Masirah TV network,
But the video broadcast on Sunday instead shows what appear to be rebels firing at vehicles on a road.
This is followed by footage of several burnt-out vehicles, as well as assorted light weaponry laid out on the ground and a group of men not in military uniforms marching down a dirt road.
In Houthi-run al-Masirah TV broadcast images of what the Houthis said were dozens of surrendering fighters. Two of those men, speaking to the camera, said they were from Saudi Arabia.
Saudi officials have not commented on the alleged assault.
It was reported over the weekend that Saudi Arabia had agreed to end its bombing campaign in some parts of Yemen in an attempt to kickstart political talks on the country’s future.
