KINGSTOWN: Top West Indies players have opted out of the World Cup qualifiers round to play in the third edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL 2018).
These players including Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Kieron Pollard and Darren Bravo. The development was revealed when Cricket West Indies, on Friday announced its 15-man squad. The qualifiers round is scheduled in Zimbabwe from March 4 to 25.
West Indies, currently 9th in the ICC ODI ranking, are among the ten teams to contest the qualifiers. The two top sides of the competition will join the top eight teams for the 2019 World Cup, scheduled in England.
WI Chief Selector Courtney Browne said the squad has the right mix of “experience and youth.”
With Jason Holder leading the team, Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels are two senior-most members of the squad. Besides, all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite, fast bowler Kemar Roach and legspinner Devendra Bishoo are also part of the squad.
