DHAKA: Sri Lanka on Saturday beat Bangladesh by 79 runs to lift the Tri-Nation Series trophy Sher e Bangla Cricket Stadium, Dhaka.
After winning the toss, Sri Lanka batted first to posted 221 in 50 overs. Upul Tharanga firing upfront with a composed top score of 56 off 99 balls.
Bangladesh in response were bowled out for 142 in 41.1 overs, handing Lankan Tigers a win they had long strived for.
Sri Lanka’s star with the ball was debutant Shehan Madushanka who decorated himself in the glory of a unique hat-trick.
Unleashing a lethal bout of yorkers, Madushanka fired out Mashrafe Mortaza (5), Rubel Hossain (0) and, and top scorer Mohammad Mohamudullah who was last out for 76 off 92 balls striking 6 boundaries and 2 sixes.
Sri Lanka have been through a lot over the last couple of years. Especially 2017 was an absolutely disastrous year for them.
It looked like they would continue down that road when they kicked off this series with a brace of defeats. But how things can turn around in a couple of weeks. Sri Lanka looked like the least likely side to make the final and now here they stand champions.
