JOHANNESBURG: After thrilling fightback, India have won the third and final Test of the series by 63 runs at Wanderers, Johannesburg.
Shami took five wickets in the second innings and six in the match.
Chasing a sizable total of 241 runs, South Africa’s last 9 wickets fell for just 53 runs, after a 114-run partnership between Dean Alger and Hashim Amla.
Alger carried the bat with 86 runs not out, Amla scored 52.
Eight South African batsmen could not enter the double-figure while four of them were out on nought.
Earlier, Indian skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bat on a green-top wicket, a decision many criticised.
In the end, it proved to be an intelligent move. He knew it would become terrible for batting in the last innings. So it did.
South Africa were 124 for 1 and looked favourites to win until as late as 20 minutes before tea. Then they end up 177 all out. This will go down as one of India’s most famous victories.
India gets the famous win, a win to remember. But, South Africa takes the three-match Test series 2-1.
