BARCELONA: South Korean electronics giant Samsung has launched Samsung S9 and Samsung S9 Plus smartphones at the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona, Spain on Sunday.
Both editions of S series were released with a 5.9-inch display and a 6.2-inch for S9 and S9 Plus respectively.
Samsung announced pre-orders for the phone began on Sunday. Whereas general sales will begin on March 16, 2018.
The main marketed feature of the phone was a camera that allows the user to take sharper pictures in low lighting by taking 12 pictures and merging the results.
Another advantage of the camera is its super slow motion video.
The phone also comes with an additional new feature called AR Emoji which allows users to make a custom emoji of their face.
This is similar to the iPhone X Animoji that features an animation that copies the facial expressions of users.
This is an understandable decision on behalf of Samsung given the S9 has been launched in competition to Apple’s iPhone X.
In terms of packaging The S9 looks similar to former model S8. This can be attributed to the fact Samsung has been pushing sales on former models with a trade in schemes allowing users to receive payment on submission of older devices.
This also helped contribute to sales on newer models, as upgrades lacking fewer changes discourage users from swapping out old phones.
Other improvements in the S9 include a better Bixby the smart assistant featured in Samsung smartphones.
