SHARJAH: Nervy bowling from never-ageing Mohammad Sami and gutsy batting from Andre Russel pulled out a nail-biting thriller against unfortunate Lahore Qalandars in the 12th game of the HBL PSL 2018 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, UAE on Friday night.
Lahore Qalandars’ skipper Brandon McCullum put Islamabad United into bat after winning the toss.
His decision was right as his bowler kept United to 121/9 in their 20 overs with JP Duminy (34) and Hussain Talat (31*) only batsmen shining.
Lahore in response, choked again, for the fourth time in the tournament.
From 77/2 at one stage they bundled out for 121 in the 20 over.
Since the scores were levelled and a Super Over was called.
Qalandars batted first this time and posted 15 runs on the board.
Andre Russel, needing 3 off the last ball, smashed it for six, winning it big time for his team.
There were two stars for Islamabad’s win tonight. First Mohammad Sami who kept his calm and defended 7 runs in the last over, despite conceding a six. He also contained Qalandars to 15 runs, when one of the balls got Umar Akmal’s top-edge for a six.
He bowled with passion, he bowled with pace. Most importantly, he bowled with a big heart.
Russel on the other end took two crucial wickets and then smashed ten runs off last two balls when they were needed the most.
