DUBAI: Afghanistan’s teenage sensation Rashid Khan has become the youngest bowler in the One-Day International (ODI) history to claim the top spot in the MRF Tyres ICC Player Rankings.
He has acquired the post at 7,092 days of age leaving behind Pakistan’s legendary off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq.
Rashid displayed Pakistan’s Hassan Ali to grab the spot.
Rashid is the only teenage bowler to achieve this hallmark.
Confirmation of the achievement came late Monday after Afghanistan completed a 4-1 series-win against Zimbabwe in Sharjah.
Rashid was the highest wicket-taker in the series. He bagged a remarkable haul of 16 wickets for a total of 127 runs, at a staggering average of 7.9.
Last week, Khan was given the ICC Associate Cricketer of the Year award.
It has been only a year since he made his international debut and within this brief period, he has left plenty of records in his wake
