DUBAI: High-flying Multan Sultans registered their second consecutive win of the HBL PSL 2018, this time against Lahore Qalandars, beating them by 43 runs.
Qalandars skipper Brandon McCullum won the toss and opted to bowl first.
The decision backfired as Multan Sultans’ openers set the tone for a big total early on with an 88-run opening stand.
Shehzad (38) and Sohaib Maqsood (4) returned to pavilion back to back when Sultans were 93/2.
Tall fast bowler Mohammad Irfan claimed both wickets.
Skipper Shoaib Malik joined Sangakkara, both rebuilt the inning and began to take on Lahore bowlers in death overs.
Sangakkara (68) and Malik (48) helped Multan Sultans to post a massive 180-run target for Lahore Qalandars.
Qalandars started off briskly with Sunil Narine (26) taking on bowlers. Narine and Brandon McCullum (0) fell early in the chase of a big total.
Talented Umar Akmal (31) helped Fakhar Zaman (49) take the match close.
It was all good for Lahore, until the 12 overs. They 132/3 when Fakhar got out, that was when the game actually ended for them.
Pumped-up Imran Tahir removed dangerous Sohail Akhtar (20) and Rizwan in one over, before Junaid picking up an outstanding hat-trick.
Next 7 wickets fell for just four runs and Lahore Qalandars rolled up for 136 runs in 18th over.
Junaid and Tahir took three wickets apiece.
