ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister to Kashmir Affairs, Barjees Tahir has retaliated in a befitting manner to Indian Army Chief Bipin Rawat’s statement on Kashmir.
Barjis Tahir stated that India is stoking a fire that could engulf the entire region.
“Such irresponsible statements have the potential to prove detrimental to peace in South Asia. India is well aware of Pakistan’s capability to offer a full-scale response to any misadventure. No one must be mistaken.”
The minister accused India of state-sponsored terrorism in Kashmir and patronising terrorism in Pakistan to foil China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
Earlier on Friday, Indian army chief Bipin Rawat said his army was ready to call Pakistan’s nuclear bluff. He further indicated that India would ‘continue its policy of hot pursuit in dealing with militancy.’
The comments yielded a strong response from Pakistan Army.
Director-General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Maj-Gen Asif Ghafoor told PTV, “We are a professional army, responsible nuclear state and resilient nation and they (India) must not remain in illusion.”
“Such statements are unbecoming of a person of responsible stature,” he said of Indian army chief’s statement. “We have a credible nuclear capability exclusively meant for a threat from the east but we believe it’s a weapon of deterrence, not a choice,” Maj-Gen Ghafoor said.
