ISLAMABAD: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) stopped Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Malir while attempting to travel to Dubai from Benazir Bhutto International Airpot.
Rao Anwar tried to flee the country showing a suspicious No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Sindh Government in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.
He had booked a seat on a Dubai-bound flight of a private airline, EK-615, but was barred from flying by FIA. He was told he cannot travel under the current circumstances. Despite being barred from the travel, FIA did not take him into custody.
Earlier on Saturday, a three-member inquiry committee headed by Additional Inspector General of Police Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Sindh Sanaullah Abbasi on Naqeebullah Mehsood’s killing in a fake encounter recommended Anwar’s name to be put on Exit Control List (ECL).
On Sunday, the committee decided to arrest him and the police party involved in the alleged fake encounter. A raid was conducted on Rao Anwar’s house in Karachi on Monday morning but nobody was found there.
Earlier, Home Minister Sindh, Sohail Anwar Siyal had suggested him to appear before inquiry committee and face a fair trial. If he doesn’t, the committee reserves right to take any action deemed fit against him added Siyal.
Siyal also added during a televised interview on Monday night that if Anwar has reservations against the committee, the Sindh government can raise them with the Sindh IG AD Khawaja.
