NEW DELHI: Indian media reports have claimed that there is a ‘distinct possibility’ of a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the US President Donald Trump later this month.
The meeting is expected when the two leaders attend the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. The annual gathering of global economic leaders is slated from January 23 to 26 at Davos.
The news came into light hours after Trump confirmed surprise attendance Davos World Economic Forum.
This is the first time in 18 years that a US president would be attending an annual gathering of global economic leaders.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders told reporters at her daily news conference the details of Trump’s trip to Davos including bilateral meetings, are being worked out.
“We’re finalising the details on exactly when the president will be there. We don’t have any commitments beyond this year at this point.”
PM Modi will travel to Switzerland on January 22 for a two-day visit, making it the first Indian Premier’s appearance at the summit since 1997.
