DUBAI: International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that Australia’s Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) will host World Twenty20 final in 2020.
The women’s tournament is scheduled in February and March 2020 with the men’s WC to follow in October-November.
The MCG has a capacity of over 100,000. It will host both men’s and women’s WT20 finals.
Australia won the ICC World Cup final in 2015 at the same venue.
Adelaide Oval will host the men’s semi-final matches.
ICC confirmed the venues Tuesday morning with Brisbane, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra on the list. Geelong and Hobart are also among the venues.
Australian captain, Steve Smith was excited on the development and said he was “already looking forward to 2020” after the success of the 2015 World Cup.
“Thinking back to 2015, the World Cup here in Australia, just the support that we had for those six weeks was something incredible,” Smith said.
